Workshops
Part of Arte y Corazón
The Esperanza provides affordable art and writing workshops, media literacy and cultural/technical skill-building trainings, and cultural tours on a rolling basis throughout the year. We believe that art can and should be accessible to all and not just to those who can afford it. Using that approach, we coordinate many events around our cultural art programs in order to expose community members to the methods used by many of contemporary artists, but also to allow our guests artists to contribute back.
Past workshops have included: Traditional Healing: Las Sobadas by Marika Alvarado, Herb and Candle Healing Workshop by Marika Alvarado & Maria Haynes , a series of movement workshops exploring a variety of writing and choreographic exercises presented by Erison Dancers; Compose Yourself: A Songwriting/Music Composition Workshop with Lourdes Perez; Creative Nonfiction Workshop with Bárbara Renaud González; La Pluma, El Corazon: LGBT Creative Writing/Performance Class co-facilitated by Anel Flores and Jesus Alonzo; educational workshops on DREAM Act resources, workers rights, and undocumented students rights; Dia de los Muertos altar making; Dia de los Muertos altar making; and Social Media for Activism & Community Organizing.
