The current situation in Palestine has garnered a lot of attention both in the mainstream media and on social media.
Gaza has been under attack by Israel for 11 days now following rocket attacks by Hamas into Israel. However, what the media doesn’t tell us is that those rockets were in response to Israeli forces attacking Palestinians in the Aqsa mosque towards the end of the holy month of Ramadan with stun grenades and tear gas. Tensions were already running high in Jerusalem due to Israeli attempts to forcefully evict Palestinians from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem and replace them with Israeli Jewish settlers as part of an ongoing process of ethnic cleansing in Jerusalem and all over historic Palestine.
In addition, as Americans we need to be aware of the role our government and tax dollars play in unequivocally supporting the Israeli government in its oppression of the palestinian people.
In order to understand the situation better and learn some of the history, please join the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center for A Conversation About Palestine. You’ll have a chance to ask questions of our panelists who include: Moureen Kaki, Ahmad Kaki, and Lama Hantash. The discussion will be moderated by Nadine Saliba.
