In March 2015, SUNY Press released the 4th edition of “This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color,” known now as THE foundational text of women of color feminism. Originally released in 1981, the anthology was edited by Cherríe Moraga, and Gloria Anzaldua who passed away in 2004.

Cherríe Moraga, co-editor of “This Bridge,” will discuss the lasting impact of the book and its influence on feminists of color. Moraga and other panelists will also discuss the relevance of this collection of writings in today’s political climate nationally and locally in San Antonio and South Texas.

Before the program begins, there will be a musical performance by El Tallercito de Son – a local organization that hosts free workshops to teach the traditional ways to sing, play, and dance Son Jarocho.

Following a presentation by Cherríe community members will pay tribute to the transformative power of This Bridge. Norma E. Cantú, Norma Alarcón, Barbie Hurtado, Jackie Cuevas, Anel Flores and Nadine Saliba will present testimonios on This Bridge and its impact on their lives and work.

Then, Cherríe will be joined in a panel discussion with Chicana historian Antonia I. Castañeda; Graciela I. Sanchez, director of the Esperanza Peace & Justice Center; and Lilliana Saldaña, professor of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies at UTSA. They will talk about the continuing impact and relevance of This Bridge Called My Back today transnationally, nationally and locally.

The event is free and open to the public. Donations welcome.
