The Donkey Lady/A Graphic Parable is the first Children’s/Juvenile & Young Adult Fiction title by Aztlan Libre Press. Written by celebrated literary icon and former San Antonio and Texas Poet Laureate, Dr. Carmen Tafolla with vivid illustrations by Thelma Ortiz Muraida.
This book is more than a simple haunting tale. The graphic book reimagines a cornerstone of San Antonio folklore, transforming it into a profound Chicana narrative centered on resilience, compassion, and historical justice.
The evening serves as a multisensory cultural celebration featuring:
• Dramatic Reading by Dr. Tafolla and others
• Exhibit of Thelma Ortiz-Muraida’s original graphic artwork, and
• Conjunto Music with Juan and Armando Tejeda
Book Signing with Carmen Tafolla & Thelma Ortiz-Muraida. Books will be available for purchase. Reception with light refreshments.
