Debut of a 3-part documentary web series on the rich story and impact of the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center that since 1987 has been a beacon of hope and culture. siri gurudev hernández’ 33-36 minute segments dive into the
37 years of Chicana Solidarity (Ep1),
Queer Communities of Color (Ep 2), and
Cultural Grounding (Ep 3).
From its inception, the Esperanza Center has emerged as a formidable political force, advocating for and collaborating with various groups and causes throughout the city. Each episode of this series is crafted as a video essay, addressing specific questions through interviews with community members, archival materials, and public media.
Episode 1 – Esperanza & Global Issues: Chicana Solidarity: How does the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center enact solidarity with communities beyond the Chicanx/Latinx?
Episode 2 – Esperanza & Diversity: Queer Communities of Color: What has been the experience of the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center in relation to its queer and trans focus?
Episode 3 – Esperanza & the Arts: Cultural Grounding: What is the role of art in the socially engaged work of the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center?

The National Conversation on Race series comes to San Antonio where it will immerse attendees in thought-provoking conversations, critical convenings on historical interpretation, film screenings, educator workshops, and art explorations, all aiming to deepen participants’ understanding of how race is woven into every aspect of daily life.
The National Conversation on Race, San Antonio is hosted by, and in collaboration with the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, American Indians in Texas at the Spanish Colonial Missions, Asian Texans for Justice, The DoSeum, San Antonio African American Community Archive Museum and the Witte Museum.
