Documentary Film Screening || Transvisible: The Bamby Salcedo Story

Saturday, September 30, 2017 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Join the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center for a screening of the documentary, “Transvisible: The Bamby Salcedo Story.”

Transvisible, a documentary film by Dante Alencastre, is about Bamby Salcedo, a transLatina activist from Guadalajara, Mexico. The film portrays her struggles with the racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and misogyny faced by the LGBTQ+ community. Bamby is the founder and president of the TransLatin@ Coalition located in East Los Angeles. Bamby’s efforts center on creating an intersectional community focused on Latinxs, immigrants, HIV positive people, youth and the LGBTQ+ community. Turning her daunting personal challenges and barriers into the very basis of her activism, the film follows her unlikely and transcendent rise into becoming the effective social advocate and role model that she is today. Her work is shown giving voice and visibility to not only the Transgender community, but also to the multiple, overlapping communities her life has touched.
