Wednesday, November 1, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 10:30 pm
Event Navigation
Join us in celebrating our deceased familia, friends y ancestors in our annual Día de los Muertos celebration on November 1, 2017 from 4 PM-10 PM at the Rinconcito de Esperanza (816 S. Colorado, San Antonio, TX 78207). There will be displays of community altars, live music, face painting for children and a procession through the neighborhood. The evening will highlight readings of literary ofrendas to remember our dead, and calavera poems that poke fun at the living and their untimely encounters with La Muerte or La Catrina. And now that Mujer Artes Cooperativa de Esperanza Peace & Justice Center‘s new adobe/CEB studio has opened, visitors will be able to see the culmination of the women’s hard work and creative endeavors. During the event everyone will be able to enjoy hot chocolate, tamales, and the traditional pan de muerto.
The event is free, but donations are always appreciated.
Join us in conserving our traditions and celebrating our cultura in El Westside de San Antonio!
In addition to the Día de los Muertos celebration, the Esperanza will host a series of Day of the Dead workshops for community members to learn the various aspects of this cultural tradition. The workshops will include how to make ofrendas/altares, paper flowers, and sugar skulls. A schedule of workshops is to be announced. Music lineup will also be announced soon!
