DESCRIPTION:The Esperanza & the Corazones de Esperanza invite the community to our monthly 2nd Saturday Convivio to share stories and memories about living in San Antonio’s Westside. Bring your photos to scan and memories to share! \n=== \nAs part of the En Aquellos Tiempos project\, these monthly gatherings serve to recover and collect the beautiful and diverse stories from people who live\, have lived\, or have experienced life in one of San Antonio’s most historic Mexican-American/Chican@ communities\, the Westside. \nDuring these events\, different topics and themes are discussed from historic theaters to traditional medicine that existed in the Westside of San Antonio. Young and old are invited to share and listen to the memories in an effort to create bridges. \nInformation on how individuals can contribute to the growing Fotohistorias collection will also be provided. DESCRIPTION:Join us Saturday\, August 11 at 8 PM for our monthly Noche Azul concert. This month the theme is TANGOS! \nDoors open at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $7 más o menos at the door\, but any more donations are appreciated. Seating is first-come first-served. Concessions will be available for purchase. \nAccompanying musicians TBA. \nABOUT AZUL: Azul Barrientos\, a popular San Antonio musician and performer\, was born in Mexico City\, Mexico. Professionally trained\, and inspired by her parents and singers of old\, she has been the artist-in-residence at the Esperanza Center since 2007. Throughout her life she has used her music as a way to make political statements and give voice to various social justice issues. From singing about women in the Mexican Revolution\, to sharing the story of the 43 student teachers from Ayotzinapa who went missing in 2014 in Mexico\, Azul’s style and message vary with every Noche Azul concert. \nABOUT NOCHE AZUL: Noche Azul de Esperanza is our ongoing series of intimate cafe style performances with acclaimed singer/songwriter Azul Barrientos. Featuring a new theme and musical lineup each month\, Noche Azul showcases traditional Mexican songs while highlighting the cultural influences and interconnections between Latin America\, Spain and Mexico.
