SUMMARY:Keeping it Real: Basic Tools for Local Organizing with Bamby Salcedo
DESCRIPTION:This free workshop will provide participants with necessary tools to learn some tips and tricks of community organizing while encouraging participants to mobilize in order to address issues in their local communities. Bamby Salcedo will share her experiences as an activist including her work with the TransLatina Coalition as well as relating this work to the SA community. The event is co-sponsored by LULAC 22198 “Orgullo de San Antonio” and the Transgender Education Network of Texas.

SUMMARY:Transvisible: The Bamby Salcedo Story Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center for a screening of the documentary\, “Transvisible: The Bamby Salcedo Story.” Following the screening will be a plática with special guest Bamby Salcedo along with local transactivists Antonia Padilla\, Eric LaRue\, and Lauryn Farris as moderator. \nTransvisible\, a documentary film by Dante Alencastre\, is about Bamby Salcedo\, a transLatina activist from Guadalajara\, Mexico. The film portrays her struggles with the racism\, sexism\, homophobia\, transphobia and misogyny faced by the LGBTQ+ community. Bamby is the founder and president of the TransLatin@ Coalition located in East Los Angeles. Bamby’s efforts center on creating an intersectional community focused on Latinxs\, immigrants\, HIV positive people\, youth and the LGBTQ+ community. Turning her daunting personal challenges and barriers into the very basis of her activism\, the film follows her unlikely and transcendent rise into becoming the effective social advocate and role model that she is today. Her work is shown giving voice and visibility to not only the Transgender community\, but also to the multiple\, overlapping communities her life has touched. \nThe event is co-sponsored by LULAC 22198 “Orgullo de San Antonio” and the Transgender Education Network of Texas.
