SUMMARY:Voz de la Paloma: Vocal Competition & Homenaje a Beatriz Llamas
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate and honor the talent and the passion of cantante Beatríz Llamas\, “La Paloma del Norte\,” who passed away on May 15\, 2023\, at age 84.  Her influence remains and will continue to inspire others for decades to come. \nBeatríz Llamas was a world-renowned ranchera singer who was highly regarded for her contribution to Tejano music. She was the first Tejana to sing at Madison Square Garden and was inducted into the Tejano Music Hall of Fame in 1995. Later in life\, Beatríz came out of retirement to join the beloved musical quartet known as Las Tesoros de San Antonio brought together by the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center. \n* * * \nLlamas built and nurtured her early career as a participant and winner in amateur singing contests at local teatros such as the Alameda\, Nacional\, and Zaragoza. To honor those roots in talent competitions\, we are presenting this homenaje. The event will begin with an evening female vocal competition open to the public. Following the competition\, there will be a performance by Mariachi Chapultepec de Arturo López Jr. To close out\, the winners will be announced and awarded. \nJohn López\, son of Beatríz\, will emcee.   Enjoy a night filled with music and song! \n* * * \nDoors open @5:30 PM\nCompetition begins @6 PM\nAward ceremony begins @8 PM \nThe event is free and open to the public. You may reserve tickets online at Eventbrite or call us at 210-228-0201 \n  \n\nEvent Parking is available at San Antonio College Lot #28 on the corner of Evergreen St. and Maverick St. The Esperanza entrance is on Evergreen St. \nThere is additional parking for seniors and  people with disabilities at the Planned Parenthood Parking Lot next to the Esperanza off of San Pedro Avenue. Permits are available inside Esperanza at the sign-in table.
