SUMMARY:Organizing for Cultural Equity | Allied Media Conference 2017
DESCRIPTION:This year the Esperanza Peace & Justice Center is helping coordinate the Disrupting Mainstream History: Memory Keeping\, Storytelling\, and Community Archives track\, along with several other organizations\, at the Allied Media Conference! We have 12 sessions this year ranging from hand-on workshops to strategy sessions to tours to dinner meet-ups. \nPlease consider donating to the Disrupting Mainstream History track TODAY! With the monies collected through this campaign\, the coordinating team hopes to offer assistance to our track presenters for housing\, registration\, or snacks for the long days ahead at AMC. These funds can help bring down financial roadblocks and get people to the table to talk. Together we can DISRUPT MAINSTREAM HISTORY. \nTo learn more about our sessions and track\, check out this article by Itza Carbajal!\nOur director\, Graciela I. Sanchez\, will also be part of the Organizing for Cultural Equity strategy session at the Allied Media Conference on June 17 from 11am-12:30pm in State Hall: Room 131 (5143 Cass\, Detroit\, MI) at Wayne State University. \nAbout Organizing for Cultural Equity\nCultural organizations by and for communities of color are underfunded by foundations and widely misunderstood by the nonprofit industrial complex. This workshop details successful organizing efforts in New Orleans\, Denver and San Antonio to hold funders and nonprofits accountable. How can we share what we have learned to make our trans-local efforts even stronger? Participants will leave with new relationships\, organizing techniques and opportunities for collaboration. \nVisit the conference website to learn more and register!
