And how can we unite to protect our people and say NO PASARAN to these racist anti-immigrant and anti-human laws.\nPanelists:\n Melissa Smyth (she/they) is an immigration public defender specializing in the intersection of immigration and criminal law currently based in San Antonio\, Texas. She is an attorney and has provided immigration advice to hundreds of non-citizens facing criminal charges under Operation Lone Star. Previously\, she defended non-citizens against detention and deportation as a staff attorney at a public defender office in New York through NYIFUP\, the nation’s first universal representation program for detained deportation defense. She holds a J.D. from the City University of New York (CUNY) School of Law.\n Carolina Carnizales is the Senior Texas Strategist at the Immigrant Legal Resource Center. In her role\, she helps build organizing and advocacy capacity to fight back the criminalization\, incarceration\, and deportation of immigrant communities in Texas. Carolina has worked in immigrant justice for the last 12 years. She is a current DACA recipient and holds a bachelor’s in communications and a master’s in public administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio.\n Ceiba ili is a musician and Educator from Honduras. Her work intertwines migrant communities\, indigenous rights\, and environmental justice.\n Amerika Garcia Grewal\, a passionate advocate for human rights and environmental stewardship. Raised in Eagle Pass\, Amerika’s early experiences canoeing on the Rio Grande with her father instilled in her a profound connection to the water and the borderlands she calls home. Amerika is the founder of the Border Vigil\, an organization dedicated to honoring the lives lost at the border and advocating for compassionate immigration policies. Her activism is driven by a commitment to her community and the environment\, as evidenced by her vocal opposition to the militarization of the border and the inhumane treatment of migrants.\n\nWe will have Spanish Interpretation and Free Food as well as refreshments!
