SUMMARY:4th Annual Son Tus Niños También: Trans Kids Back to School
DESCRIPTION:The Queer Corazones de Esperanza have organized the 4th Annual Son Tus Niños También: Trans Kids Back to School at the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center. The event will be at 922 San Pedro Ave. on Saturday\, August 10\, 2019 from 5-8pm. This event is free. Translation is available. The first 50 guests to\narrive get a backpack full of school supplies after the event! \nThe purpose of the event is to facilitate a conversation between parents\, their children\, and teachers on how best to include\, respect\, and protect trans youth in schools. Given the current political dialogue\, harmful legislation\, and violence against the trans community\, we want to create a safe space to share the experiences\, concerns\, and visions of parents of trans kids and trans individuals so that the community can get different perspectives of what is happening here in San Antonio. \nSchool administrators\, counselors\, and legal experts will take the stage to discuss treatment of trans children in schools\, legal rights\, and procedures. The discussion panel will consist of true experiences and stories of Trans children and their parents in the context of US schools. The panel will include updates from those who were part of Trans Kids Back to School 2016\, 2017\, and 2018. \nSchedule:\n5:00pm Resource Fair\n6:00pm Welcome by Graciela Sanchez & Intro by Lauryn Farris\n6:10pm Brian Klosterboer\, ACLU\n6:25pm David Nungary\, Bonham Academy Principal\n6:40pm Emmett Schelling\, Executive Director of TENT\n6:55pm Fiesta Youth Group (Tentative)\n7:10pm Roberto Treviño\n7:15pm Panel\nLauryn Farris\, Moderator\nJeff\, Kim\, and Nate Anderson\nJazmyn and Elinor Goodwin\nChristina Rodriguez and Adam\n7:50pm Q&A \nResource Tables: YMCA\, SA Trans Brothers\, Trans Allies\, Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT\,) Esperanza\, Fiesta Youth\, Pride Center\, Aetna\, HRC\, Metro Health Testing\, Planned Parenthood
