This Wednesday January 30 at 5:30 PM – 8 PM
In April, City Council will vote on the adoption of the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) that has been in development for the past year. As we’ve seen time and time again, the right choices aren’t made, the necessary policies aren’t passed, the required urgent actions aren’t acted upon unless WE, the people, show up and demand them.
Starting on January 23rd, we’ll be at Citizens To Be Heard every week to voice our concerns and vision for climate justice in San Antonio. We are looking for folks to speak on a variety of climate justice issues, such as climate policy, youth involvement, public health and fossil fuels, and environmental racism.
Our big ask is for City Council to vote YES on the Climate Action and Adaption Plan and for that plan to include:
– no coal by 2025
– carbon-free electricity by 2030
– net-zero emissions by 2040!
Climate change isn’t in the future. It isn’t only halfway across the world. It’s here and it’s now. And we need a climate plan with teeth. One that actually shuts down coal plants, one that transitions CPS Energy to renewable energy, and one that sets San Antonio on a path to zero emissions. The foundation of our society is built on fossil fuels and that foundation must fundamentally change for humanity to survive.
Do you have a story to tell? A frustration to vent? A worry to expel? Then join us in speaking truth to power. We’re only as strong as the people we stand in solidarity with.
We will gather outside on Municipal Plaza from 5:30 to 6:00. Feel free to bring friends/family and wear green in solidarity, please!
